the north sea is never as black as you want it to be particle by particle wish the wind would whisper a little more than stories of endless nights & useless talks but now the river speaks of arrogance & career opportunities the building blocks of life surround me centrepiece of every ‘good morning’ the palm tree stands alone with dying leaves on a wet floor sirens roar day & night wish I was a part of it a little more smoke and steam show the way towards the green cold & dark as I look out the window for a daily look of density & color schemes the riverbed has not been well to me you can’t smile your way out of loneliness I’ve been here for 10+ years and I’ve always had the feeling that everyone stares but I met my lover here through notable failures of a lesser man trying to cope in winter I can hide a little better and I lived in fear with cigarettes & beer but I, I know, you can’t smile your way out alone standing in the corner of the living room thinking nothing for the first time but I met my lover here might as well stay here

about

Pre-order vinyl: orcd.co/siemreap-nowwhat

Over the past 3 years, Gilles Demolder — known for his guitar playing in dark metallers Oathbreaker and death dealers Wiegedood— has been silently working on finding a new sound and a new way of expressing himself. After what seemed like a lifetime of trial and error, throwing away song after song and a lot of endless nights of recording, Siem Reap arose.

Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Gilles sings about daily life, thoughts about expectational masculinity, friendship, family and relationships, with substance (ab)use as a thread throughout his songs. His debut album Now What? deals with loneliness, loving and feeling loved, but most of all it is an honest experiment and a gateway into Gilles’ thoughts.
